Luminaria Sale

Luminaries are a tradition in the southwest and Mexico. Christians there place white bags with lit candles inside along the walkway to their houses on Christmas Eve. They burn the candles as a guide to the Christ child — welcoming Him into their homes and announcing to the world that they are celebrating His glorious birth.

This year, the Youth Ministry teens will be making Christmas Luminaries for parishioners. Proceeds will benefit CCSP Youth Ministry. Parishioners are invited to request Luminaries in memory or honor of loved ones or for other special intentions.

Suggested Donation is $3.00.
Make checks payable to St. Sylvester’s CYO.

Your luminaries will be placed around the outside of the church and lit on Christmas Eve — burning well into the
wee hours of the morning.

Please return your order form to the rectory by Sunday December 15, 2019.

The Cross Over The Crib

7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

On Saturday December 7th, we begin a new chapter of our adventure together. We have experienced a great number of blessings thus far, and now we seek to open up the storehouse of Heaven to pour out the Everlasting Love of our Lord Jesus Christ to all of our brothers and sisters.

As we prepare our hearts for the coming of our Lord, let us contemplate His Incarnation together. Let us dwell on the reality of His Incarnation here and today, in the Blessed Sacrament and in us.

In the past we have gathered to sing carols and praise to our Lord, and now we seek to go deeper and wider into His Love. The Cross over The Crib will be that deepening of our contemplation of His Incarnation and our Blessed Mother’s yes, and the widening of our hearts as we receive His Grace to be filled to overflowing with His Spirit and His Gifts at His Coming.

The night will be filled with contemplative prayer in between contemporary praise songs and contemporary Christmas carols: O Come O Come Emmanuel, Hail Mary Gentle Woman, The Perfect Yes, Silent Night, The Word Became Flesh, O Holy Night, Angels We Have Heard on High, Come All Ye Faithful, He Shall Reign Forevermore, and What A Beautiful Name. So over the next few weeks prepare your hearts with these songs so that when we gather we can pray them with all of our hearts.

We are grateful to God for your faithfulness and the fruit of your love in Christ Jesus, and we greatly anticipate Glorifying God with you at Church of the Epiphany on December 7, from 7-9 p.m.!

Visit the Festival of Praise page in the Catholic Community of South Pittsburgh website where there is information about this month’s speaker, videos from previous celebrations and the Praise Nation Band’s repertoire.

March for Life

Friday, January 18, 2019

Washington DC

Deacon Tim is organizing a bus trip for the 2019 March for Life, which will take place on Friday, January 18th in Washington, DC. Since the 1973 Supreme Court cases, Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, which legalized abortion-on-demand in our country, over 60 million lives have been lost to abortion. Ending abortions and promoting a culture of life is why we march each year.

Deacon Tim is trying to determine which size bus to reserve for our group. If you are interested in joining us, please send an email to deacontim@verizon.net.

If you cannot join us, please pray for our safety on the trip and for the end to abortion. “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
